Our Logo

Holy Cross Logo
For the Logo of the Sisters of the Holy Cross we find the following interpretations

The three hills point to Menzingen in Switzerland, the cradle of the Holy Cross Sisters, where the Motherhouse of the Congregation is situated in a very hilly region.
They are also a symbol of the Holy Trinity, which is the foundation of our Christian Faith.

The Cross refers to the name of the Congregation: Sisters of the Holy Cross.
It is the emblem of the Paschal Mystery, which is the centre of our lives.

The sun is Christ in our lives.

The moon is a symbol of Mary, the reflection of Christ. We too are called to reflect Christ.

The stars express the original apostolate of the Sisters: The Congregation began as "Teaching Congregation": "Those who have instructed many in virtue shall shine as bright stars for all eternity." (Dan.12:3)
Through Baptism every Christian is called to teach the faith through word and example.

[The Sky: blue - Faith / The Hills:green - Hope/ The Cross: red or white - Charity / The Stars: gold - Glory]

IN CRUCE SALUS

A Teacher's Prayer

Teacher's Prayer
Lord Jesus, when you lived and worked and talked amongst men in Palestine, they called you teacher.
Help me to remember that I work with the most precious material in the world, the mind of a child.

Help me always to remember, that I am making a mark upon that mind which time will never rub out.
Give me patience with those who are slow to learn and even with those who refuse to learn.

When I have to exercise discipline, help me to do so in sternness and yet in love.
Keep me from the sarcastic and biting tongue, and help me always to encourage and never to discourage those who are doing their best, even if that best is not very good.

Help me to help the children, not only to store things in their memories but to be able to use their minds, and to think for themselves.

And amidst all the worrying and irritation and the questions of my job, help me to remember that the future of the nation and of the world is in my hands.
This I ask for Love's sake.
Amen.

Holy Cross School Anthem

1. My song shall rise with gladness,
The name and fame to tell;
To hail the place I treasure
And where I love to dwell;
The spot so dear and cherished
To which my heart has grown;
My second home of childhood
The Holy Cross my own,
The Holy Cross my own.

2. You are to me a fountain
Whence light and truth do draw,
From you like pleasant streamlets
The rays of wisdom flow.
‘Tis here where childhood’s pleasures
Are ever to be mine,
Where ties of tender friendship
All youthful hearts entwine,
All youthful hearts entwine.
